The Kinesiology Department's new Center for Obesity Prevention and Education (COPE) aims to use the multi-dimensional strengths of Cal Poly's faculty students, and facilities to help families, educators, and medical professionals promote healthy weight loss across the lifespan. Interested Cal Poly community members will have an opportunity to discuss their interest and possible involvement in COPE.
Our goal is to support existing Central Coast community agencies by designing and assessing the effectiveness of novel community-based education and intervention programs that foster the habits, skills, and behaviors necessary for good health. We also intend to strengthen the university’s position to secure research funding.
Do you have an interest in weight, health promotion, co-morbidities, or biochemical markers? Behavior, educational models, or communication? Statistics, socioeconomics, or economic impact? Can you see a role for you and/or your class in joining our collaborative COPE project to translate the existing scientific and medical literature into feasible and sustainable community-based programs?
On Friday, October 19, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in 35-510 B, interested Cal Poly community members will have an opportunity to discuss their interest and possible involvement in COPE.
Date: Friday October 19, 2007
Time: 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
