Effective Teaching & Learning Course
This is an opportunity for faculty to attain knowledge and learn skills to improve effectiveness as instructors and to provide better student learning. It will be facilitated by CTL associates: Walt Bremer (ARCH), Jodi Christiansen (COSAM), Joe Grimes (CTL/CENG), Jennifer Jipson (CLA), and Don Maas (COE) along with the possible guest lecturers. This course will be an opportunity for participants to interact and share ideas.
Two key anticipated outcomes of this course are that faculty develop steps to enhance student learning and that the participants share information about teaching and learning. Another important desired outcome is that participants work on one or more aspects of a particular course to modify their current teaching practices.
Each week a question will be addressed with the following questions for the first two weeks.
Week One: How should I best prepare for this quarter?
Week Two: What are some effective strategies to use throughout the quarter?
Possible ideas include:
- Course design
- Formative and summative assessment of student learning
- Facilitations of student learning (including methods, elements of effective instruction, active participation, teacher actions when teaching to an objective, enabling good pedagogy with technology and other tools, group learning, interaction with students, course management)
Date: Wednesdays Starting January 9
Time: 2:00pm to 4:00pm
Location: Kennedy Library, Room 510B
